X, the social media app formerly known as Twitter, is experiencing slot online issues, with users reporting that their timelines are not loading.
More than 800 people have logged the issue with online outage tracker Down Detector, with the problem appearing to start shortly before 2.30pm BST. Both the website and the app are affected.
People are still able to post tweets, and have been doing so to complain about the site not working.
“Twitter so down that even #TwitterDown hashtag has no tweets,” Shubham Kumar tweeted.
Twitter has experienced a growing number of issues since Elon Musk took over the company last year, with many blaming the fact he has fired huge numbers of staff, including engineers.
This outage comes at a bad time for Mr Musk, after he announced on Monday that he intends to take the app behind a paywall in future.
During a live-streamed conversation with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu he suggested a paywall was the only way to tackle bots.
“We’re moving to having a small monthly payment for use of the system,” he said. “A bot costs a fraction of a penny, but if somebody even has to pay a few dollars or something, some minor amount, the effective cost to bots is very high.”
The billionaire has not disclosed further details of how the payment system would work.
Users can already pay for access to additional features on the platform under an X Premium subscription.
Subscribers receive a blue checkmark on their account, the ability to share longer posts, and edit posts.
The price of an X Premium subscription differs based on country. It currently costs $8 (£6.50) a month for users in the US and £11 for users in the UK.
